Risks and side effects

Anyone considering a treatment wants to know first what can happen. Here it is, in full and without varnish.

What is normal

Redness and a feeling of warmth for a few hours up to two days. A slight sandpaper texture after laser sessions. Fine flaking after three to five days. After pigment treatments the spots darken first before they flake off; that is intended and not a fault. After EMFACE, a muscle sensation like after training.

What occurs rarely

Redness lasting longer, swelling beyond 48 hours, small crusts, temporary lightening or darkening of the treated area. In very rare cases blisters or a superficial inflammation. Almost all of these reactions heal without consequence, but they do need a check-up with us.

What the real risks are

With laser and light applications, permanent pigment shifts or scarring are theoretically possible. In practice they arise only from excessive energy, treatment on tanned skin, or missing aftercare. That is exactly why we measure beforehand, test on a small area with sensitive skin, and document every setting.

When we do not treat

Pregnancy and breastfeeding. Fresh tan or a planned sun holiday within the next two weeks. Isotretinoin taken within the last six months. Photosensitising medication. Active infections or herpes in the treatment field. Unclear or changing pigmented moles. Certain autoimmune and blood-clotting disorders. Implanted electronic devices in the case of radiofrequency. We ask about these points systematically before any device is switched on.

When to contact us immediately

In case of severe swelling, blisters, weeping, increasing pain or fever. Call us, in the evening as well. We will look at it the next day, at no cost.

What we do not promise

No device works the same for everyone. Results depend on skin type, age, lifestyle and your own part in it. We tell you before the first session what is realistic, and if a treatment will do little for you, we advise against it.

Frequently asked questions

Can I go back to work after a treatment?

In the vast majority of cases, yes. Redness is the most common effect and can be covered with make-up from the following day.

What if something does not go as planned?

You call us, we look at it, without waiting and at no cost. Follow-up checks are part of the treatment.

Do you treat during pregnancy?

No. During pregnancy and breastfeeding we do not use laser, light or radiofrequency. LED and skincare advice are possible.

What about isotretinoin or blood-thinning medication?

Both are relevant. After isotretinoin we observe a six-month pause. We always discuss medication in full at the first consultation.

Can a treatment cause pigment spots?

With a darker skin type, fresh tan or excessive energy this is possible. That is why we test on a small area first.
